It is good to see that a domestic manufacturer who has made big strides over the years get rewarded a bit.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I have long been a supporter of the domestic car industry, and I hope to see them pick up some of the marketshare they lost. The domestic industry is about 50\/50 between the big three and the imports. Anyways back to the show. The big thing this year after the introduction of the camaro last year (which I think is a few years too late), is the Chevy Volt. Now this car is the green car of the future, not only that, but it has character. It looks good, and actually has pretty good specs. The glass doors are pretty innovative and it definitely makes people look twice. The Chevy Volt is a plug in hybrid that gets 150 mpg in 60 mile commutes, looks sporty and features decent acceleration. Now the idea behind the Chevy volt is that most people only drive 40 miles or less per day. So why not make the batteries bigger so that people can drive that without using any gas? If you drive over 40 miles then the small gas engine powers a generator to recharge the batteries. The result: Great fuel economy from a good looking car that feature all the safety features we come to expect. Now if GM can keep the price down, this thing will unseat the Prius. The Prius needs a redesign. Why do Honda and Toyota think that a car thats environmentally friendly has to look completely different from anything else on the road? I think what they should do is introduce hybrid technology into high volume products, so they can use economies of scale and proven aesthetics to sell the vehicle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With a win for Car of the year with the Saturn Aura and Truck of the Year with the Silverado, this has been an excellent show for GM.
