Back to Wifi

With the smartphone market showing year over year growth of 60+%, and the recent Iphone announcement likely to popularize WIFI, I see wifi becoming a huge driver for semiconductor sales.

My two picks: Marvell Technology (MRVL) and Atheros (ATHR)

Both companies are largely successful wireless semiconductor companies with Marvell being the larger of the two. Atheros is a major supplier of wireless cards for laptops and the popular Nintendo DS. Marvell on the other hand is a more diversified semiconductor company making Xscale, Topdog wifi, hard drive SOC, and printer ASIC. Semiconductor are very cyclical and stock price depends highly on gross margins, but I am for some reason drawn to them and their ability to make the digital lifestlye possible. I see both of these companies being very successful in the years to come, maybe not this year or the next but in the future I don’t see wireless and mobile technologies going down in popularity.
